What are the system requirements?

SnippetEdit is a PHP application. SnippetEdit is brand new, but as we grow, if there is demand, we will consider an ASP or ASP.NET version.

SnippetEdit is installed on your webserver. It is not a Windows application that you run from your desktop. SnippetEdit is compatible with most PHP server configurations. The best way to be sure SnippetEdit will work on your server is to download the free 45-day trial.

For the end user, SnippetEdit only requires a modern browser. SnippetEdit has been tested compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox on Windows. If you have tested SnippetEdit on other platforms/browsers, please let us know by posting your experience in our forums. Although SnippetEdit works with Firefox, the rich-text editing feature only works in Internet Explorer. Firefox users will simply see a plain-text editing window when editing rich-text snippets.

The default snippet storage method is to directly edit the web page files. This means you will need to give write privileges to all files you expect the user to edit with SnippetEdit. SnippetEdit also provides a facility to let the user upload new images to the website images folder. This folder will also need write privileges unless you do not want the user to upload images.

SnippetEdit can also be used to manage content snippets stored in your database, but SnippetEdit itself does not require or use a database at all.

What are the licensing restrictions?

SnippetEdit is licensed per domain. When you purchase SnippetEdit, you tell us the name of the domain you will be using it on. That domain name is then encrypted into the copy you download so that it only functions on that domain. Tip! Don't tell us "www.mywebsite.com". Just enter "mywebsite.com". That way, you can use SnippetEdit with any subdomain you may create down the road.
